RICHARD KIRSTEIN
Author & Music Rights Specialist
Richard Kirstein is the author of Music Rights Without Fights, a sought-after conference speaker and music rights expert. His 30 year career spans performance, composition, music publishing, advertising and independent consulting on music rights procurement for brands.
Following almost a decade in music publishing, Richard established and ran Leap Music, a joint venture with BBH London. Leap built a catalogue of original scores and brokered over a thousand sync licences for global advertisers including Unilever, Diageo, Vodafone, Levi’s and Audi.
In 2010, Richard launched Resilient Music LLP as an independent consultancy to help brands buy music smarter. Resilient’s team of consultants serve advertisers in luxury, fashion, gambling, gaming, alcoholic beverage, automotive and financial services sectors. In this context, Richard educates Resilient’s clients in music rights procurement strategies grounded in competitive tendering and a deep understanding of cost drivers.
In 2017 Richard was invited to join Advertising Production Resources (APR) for whom he consults in a non-exclusive role as music rights specialist. In 2020, Richard produced a second edition of Music Rights Without Fights for US advertisers in conjunction with APR.
Outside Resilient, Richard is a frequent guest lecturer for music business management degree courses including BIMM in Brighton. A resident of Worthing, Richard is often found cycling along the coast and occasionally playing piano for a local band.
